A Coffee at Le Spose di Mori

The Privilege of a Private Atelier Visit

A few days ago, I had the rare opportunity to visit Le Spose di Mori at an unusually unhurried pace.

This wasn’t one of my bridal appointments, where all of our attention—mine and the atelier team’s—is, quite rightly, devoted to the bride. Instead, it was simply a coffee shared within the intimate atmosphere of a place I have come to know over the years from a very different perspective.

For the first time, I was able to slow down and truly observe this remarkable little world of fabrics, pearls, sequins, embroidery, accessories and exquisite details, all intertwined with one of the most meaningful moments in a family’s life: a wedding.

Behind the Scenes at Le Spose di Mori

Behind a name that has become a true institution in Central Italy’s bridal scene—and one of the leading destinations for brides searching for the perfect wedding dress in Tuscany and Central Italy—I discovered, once again, the one ingredient that makes exceptional businesses truly extraordinary: the people behind them.

Because Le Spose di Mori is much more than an atelier.
It is, above all, a family.
Passionate. Demanding. Exceptionally skilled.

Le Spose di Mori is far more than an atelier. It is a story of family, passion, and tradition that, for generations, has dressed the dreams of brides, grooms, and wedding guests with unmistakable Italian style.

The Tailoring Department: The Heart of the Atelier

Stepping through these rooms felt almost like passing through a hidden doorway into the true heart of the atelier: its renowned tailoring and pressing department.

It is one of the defining features that makes Le Spose di Mori’s tailoring service so highly valued by brides seeking a gown that is genuinely made their own.

The space feels almost suspended in time—a place filled with quiet concentration and purposeful gestures, where skilled hands sew, refine, alter and perfect dresses destined to become part of life’s most treasured memories.

Even with curious eyes watching or the occasional candid photograph, the focus never falters.

Here, the lively atmosphere of bridal appointments gives way to the sound of steam irons, scissors gliding effortlessly across fabric, pins placed with practiced confidence, and hushed conversations between women who have mastered their craft.

Every gown continues its transformation until the very last detail.

A waistline taken in by a single centimetre.
A sleeve thoughtfully redesigned.
A neckline delicately reshaped.

Dressing the Front Row: Le Spose di Mori’s Occasion Wear Collection

My journey through the atelier began with warm smiles and a good cup of coffee before naturally leading me to the occasion wear department—and I must admit, I could have spent hours there.

Evening gowns, elegant suits, vibrant colours, exquisite craftsmanship and seemingly endless possibilities. It is the perfect place to dress those we affectionately call the “front row” in the wedding industry: mothers, sisters, bridesmaids, witnesses and all the special people who experience the wedding day alongside the couple as leading figures in the celebration.

The collection is so extensive that it deserves a visit of its own.

Its remarkable breadth is no coincidence. Over the years, Le Spose di Mori has carefully curated a selection capable of embracing an extraordinary variety of styles, personalities and expectations.

It reminded me of a phrase I have often heard within the industry:

“If you’re looking for it, you’ll find it at Mori.”

Not because they simply offer more dresses than anyone else, but because they have the ability to provide an authentic answer to women who are genuinely different from one another.

From the mother of the bride to the maid of honour, from those drawn to timeless elegance to women looking for something more contemporary, distinctive or unexpected..

A Conversation with Angela Mori

Behind the scenes at Le Spose di Mori, one of Central Italy’s leading bridal ateliers, photographed by Giulia Barabani, destination wedding planner in Umbria, Tuscany and Italy.

We then moved into what I like to call my favourite fitting room.

Imagine opening a door to discover a space that feels both grand and wonderfully intimate. Mustard velvet curtains, soft carpeting, plush rugs, comfortable poufs, oversized mirrors, and lighting designed to flatter every surface—and every emotion—without ever feeling overwhelming.

That morning, I truly saw the room for the first time.

Perhaps because it was empty. Perhaps because it wasn’t already filled with someone else’s emotions. I suddenly realised that every detail had been thoughtfully designed to make a woman feel special—but above all, completely at ease.

Born from the heart of Italian tailoring, the atelier combines the elegance of haute couture with the warmth of a family-run business—refined, yet never intimidating—where every client feels like the protagonist of her own story.

Because finding your wedding dress certainly requires beauty.
But it also requires trust.

It wasn’t easy convincing everyone to let me sit on the fitting platform—on the floor, exactly where I like to be. Yet that perspective became the starting point for a conversation that proved far richer than I could have imagined.

Angela is an extraordinary woman: determined yet welcoming, deeply passionate yet remarkably grounded. The kind of person who can curate a collection of more than seven hundred wedding gowns while never hesitating to postpone purchasing from a prestigious brand if she believes it isn’t the right fit for her brides.

She is undoubtedly the heart of Le Spose di Mori, but just as importantly, she leads a team that is genuinely engaged, collaborative and deeply invested in every bride’s journey.

What struck me most was the freedom with which the collections are built.

Timeless classics coexist effortlessly alongside contemporary designs, unexpected silhouettes and details that challenge convention. Le Spose di Mori is never afraid to be bold, because they understand that every bride deserves to find a dress that truly reflects who she is.

Our conversation naturally turned to transformation.

We spoke about how the bridal world has evolved over the past few years—and how brides themselves have changed with it. We discussed how crucial the role of a collection curator has become today.

Choosing which gowns to display is no longer simply about following trends. It is about interpreting desires, anticipating needs, and understanding how a woman wants to feel on one of the most important days of her life.

Many brides arrive at the atelier convinced they already know exactly what they want.

A minimalist gown.
A romantic gown.
A dress adorned with pearls.
Something understated.
Of course, something elegant.
And yet, what they ask for is often not what they are truly searching for.

Sometimes their real desire is hidden beneath family expectations, Pinterest boards, current trends, or simply an idea of what they believe a bride is supposed to be.
This is where the work becomes almost psychological. It is no longer about presenting dresses. It is about observing. Listening.

Stepping back long enough to recognise an authentic reaction.
A glance in the mirror.
An involuntary smile.
A posture that suddenly changes.
Those are the moments that tell the real story.

More often than not, the moment a woman finds her dress is not the moment she discovers the most beautiful gown. It is the moment she recognizes herself.

That thought stayed with me because it mirrors, almost perfectly, what happens when designing a wedding.
Couples arrive at my studio with saved images, mood boards, references and countless ideas.

But our role as planners and designers is not to recreate what they have seen.
It is to understand who they are.

That is why partners like Le Spose di Mori become far more than suppliers—they become true creative collaborators.
They are professionals who share the same commitment to listening, to celebrating individuality, and to creating experiences that feel deeply personal and genuinely authentic.

I have always believed that curiosity is one of the most powerful tools we possess in this profession.
Without curiosity, a wedding dress is nothing more than a piece of white fabric.
A venue is simply a beautiful building.
A wedding becomes little more than a sequence of events.
Curiosity is what allows us to look beyond the obvious.

To discover the story of the person who creates.
The story of the person who chooses.

And the story of the people who will ultimately live that experience.
Perhaps that is why I have always been wary of projects that are too easily replicated.

When a wedding could belong to anyone, it often ends up belonging to no one.
And I believe exactly the same is true of a wedding dress.

The Groom According to Le Spose di Mori

I also had the pleasure of stepping into the world of men’s tailoring—a universe that is still too often overshadowed by bridal fashion.

I was guided through fabrics, bespoke construction, refined details and thoughtful customisation, all of which reflected one simple truth: today’s groom is not merely looking for an elegant suit. He is looking for a way to express his identity—with confidence, authenticity and understated sophistication.

What struck me most was the unmistakable difference that true Italian tailoring can make.

It also reminded me of the value of heritage brands that have continued to evolve over time, working alongside ateliers like Le Spose di Mori to reinterpret classic craftsmanship through a contemporary and deeply personal lens.

Tailoring as a Mindset: Identity Before Trends

Throughout our conversation, one idea resurfaced again and again, leaving a lasting impression on me: tailoring.
Not only the tailoring that takes shape through needle and thread.
But tailoring as a way of thinking.

The belief that every project should be built around the person—not the other way around. And perhaps this is where the true value of a place like Le Spose di Mori becomes clear.

It does not lie simply in the extraordinary number of gowns they carry, nor in the remarkable selection of designers and collections.

It lies in their ability to offer every bride a carefully curated journey, an attentive selection, and a level of personalisation capable of transforming a dress into something that genuinely reflects the woman wearing it.

It is a philosophy made possible by an unwavering investment in quality, expertise, and a tailoring department that continues to be the beating heart of the atelier.

In a time when luxury is often mistaken for appearance, there is a different kind of elegance to be found here.
One rooted in substance.

And perhaps that is what true luxury looks like today.

As I left the atelier, I found myself thinking that perhaps the greatest privilege is not having endless possibilities to choose from.

Perhaps the real privilege is finding someone willing to devote the time required to understand which one is truly yours.

That is exactly what happens here.

If you are planning your wedding in Umbria or Tuscany and are looking for an atelier that combines expert guidance, genuine personalisation and the finest traditions of Italian tailoring, Le Spose di Mori is undoubtedly a place worth discovering.

As a destination wedding planner in Italy, I deeply value professionals who place people’s identity at the heart of everything they do.

That is precisely what I found during this visit.

I hope you’ll have the chance to experience it for yourself.
